Nike and Apple said Thursday that it would officially launch the first product as a result of their partnership on Friday. The Nike+iPod Sport Kit, retailing for $29 USD, allows Nike+ ready footwear to communicate with the iPod Nano.

Apple enthusiast site ThinkSecret on Friday reported that Apple is planning to make significant changes to its iPod Mini line and introduce larger iPod Shuffles in the coming weeks. The announcements are expected at Apple Expo Paris on September 20.

A judge in California's San Mateo County has given final approval to a settlement that could offer some kind of solace to nearly 1.3 million iPod owners who have had problems with defective batteries within the popular digital music player. The settlement was tentatively approved in June.

Hewlett-Packard is bulking up its line of HP-branded versions of Apple's iPod, announcing Thursday it has begun to sell the iPod Mini. iPod users are more likely to own digital video recorders, personal digital assistants, digital cameras, laptop computers and cell phones than non-iPod owners. 59 percent of them use text messaging and 45 percent take camera phone pictures, versus 24 and 15 percent respectively who do not own a MP3 player.
